Historic Tipiṭaka relationship between Thailand and Japan --2007-04-09 Otani Univ Kyoto
In 2007 Dhamma Society Patrons made a special pilgrimage to Japan to search for the King of Siam Tipiṭaka 1893 edition which was presented to leading institutions in Japan a century ago.
Happily, seven sets of this historic edition have been found in good condition at several institutes of high learning, including Komazawa University, National Diet Library and Japan Academy..
With this first-hand information, Dhamma Society endorsed the wish from the Japan Theravada Buddhist Association to request the new 40-volume Roman-script Tipiṭaka Edition from Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, Royal Patron of the World Tipiṭaka.
In 2008, after Princess Galyani Vadhana passed away, Princess Chulabhorn graciously accepted an invitation to visit Japan to preside over the Tipiṭaka Presentation for the Japanese Tipiṭaka Patrons in Osaka.
14 institutions were presented with the royal gift. A ceremony took place on September 10, 2008 at Shittenoji in Osaka.
